About ANFA

Members of ANFA are funeral directors who choose to use cooling methods rather than chemical embalming whenever possible. We support families throughout the process of caring for people after death, and planning the funeral event. The values outlined below underpin our practice.

ANFA members need to provide evidence of the chilling process used, and the % of people not embalmed over every 12 month period of membership.

In addition, the ultimate parent company of ANFA members needs to be New Zealand owned and operated.

Our Values:

  • Transparency

    We are transparent about all aspects of our work, including: our way of working; our fees; legal requirements; medical requirements; care of the body;

    and disposal of the body.

  • Safety

    We consider that safety is a central component of professional practice. We care for bodies safely and hygienically. At all times, we maintain client confidentiality. We ensure physical safety for our staff.

  • Integrity

    Integrity is at the heart of all we do. We aim to do what is right for each family by honestly discussing options and basing decisions on quality rather than cost. Our work is underpinned by eco-friendly processes. We build professional relationships within the funeral sector.

  • Responsiveness

    We respond to the families we work with. The wishes of our families inform our work. We strongly believe that what works for a family works for us, so we listen carefully and respond flexibly. We deeply understand grief and the ways in which it affects people. We recognise diversity and we are open to ways of expressing it, including cultural diversity.

  • Authenticity

    We are real. Our members bring their own personalities and strengths and engage with authenticity and genuineness.

  • Respect

    Respect is important to us. We respect the body, treating it always with dignity. We respect the place that the deceased person has had in their family and we bring that understanding to our interactions with the family. We respect diversity of all kinds, including religious, cultural, sexual, gender and ethnic diversity. We are open to learning more from our diverse communities and individuals.

Associate Members of ANFA are businesses or individuals providing products or services to the funeral sector who are also committed to these values.

Associate members need to be either a business where the ultimate parent company is New Zealand owned and operated, or a sole trader who is a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand.
